Spring Program 2011: A Collection of Covers
Gamelan tackles the pop world
In three programs presented this past May and June at
GAGA gallery inGarnerville NY, The Tenri Gallery in Manhattan, and at The Gamelan Loft
Arrangements, spinoffs and newly inspired pieces drawing on the stars of our youth such as
Bob Dylan, the Beatles, Tito Puente, Steely Dan, The Chambers Brothers, Archie Bell
transformed by the composers and instruments of the Gamelan.
New Book by Gamelan Members
Deena Burton, Indonesian dance specialist, was a long time friend, collaborator and performer
with Gamelan Son of Lion, as well as founder of New York's Javanese gamelan group Kusuma Laras.
Sitting at the Feet of Gurus is her book about pioneer dance ethnographer Claire Holt,
edited by ensemble member-composer David Simons.
